GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO HISTORY:
The Golden Age of Radio, also known as the old-time radio era, refers to the time period beginning in the early 20s to the late 50s. The Golden Age Radio became a stable in the entertainment industry. These days, radio doesn’t seem to have the same effect that it did in this time, but why? Today:

- There are many other forms of entertainment
- Radio is often filled with advertisements and very little (good) music
- Music streaming websites have replaced and made the radio obsolete

Nowadays, the only time people have access to radio is when they’re driving their cars. But in the 20s this was not the case as radio was the primary source of entertainment.

A variety of formats and genres were created for this new medium, many of which eventually migrated to television: radio plays, mystery serials, soap operas, quiz shows, talents shows, variety hours, situation comedies, children’s shows, and cooking shows.

The broadcasts of live drama, comedy, music and news that was typical during this Golden Age was preceded by a similar medium in Paris in the 1890s, which allowed subscribers the opportunity to eavesdrop on live stage performances and to hear news reports through a series of telephone lines.

The Golden Age of Radio was made possible through the several radio broadcasts in the United States that aired programs nationwide, but was replaced in the 50s by the television set.
